Email: CAPN_5602@msn.com
Age: 46
Country: Texas, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: UC
More Info: I developed ulcerative colitis at age 13, at age 27 the decision was made to make this monster go away. This was in 1984 when the new internal pouch was just in its infancy. I had my first surgery in May 1984, then 3 months later the second surgery. I can't tell you the relief when the first surgery was over with, the pain, the anemia was totally gone, I had color in my face immediately. About a year later, I got married and had my first and only child in December of 1986. I had a bowel obstruction after the delivery from adhesions and had to be rushed into emergency surgery. I survived again!! Unfortunately, I developed severe pouchitis and I had a permanent ileostomy performed in April 1990. I have learned so much about life and myself, I love life to the fullest and I want to help others with this situation. I have forgotten all about the pain I was in. Peace and love to all. Carol

Name: Jennifer
Email: Benjispunkster@aol.com
Age: 18
Country: Cleveland, Ohio, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: CD and cancer
More Info: My name is Jennifer and I am 18 years old. I was diagnosed with IBD in 2000 and had a total colectomy in april 2001 caused by my crohn's and colon caner. I am still trying to handle everything and I have never talk with anyone around my age who has had the same problems as I. I mean it is so hard to be so young with such a hard load. Well, let me give a little bit more info on me. I am from Cleveland OH and hate it here! I have had crohn's for about 3 years now and my ileostomy for about 2 1/2 years and about a year ago I had my rectum also removed. I spent way too much time in the hospital and not enough at home HAHA (a total of 6 1/2 months). I also have a blood cloting disorder and was recently diagnosed with endometriosis. So right now life is hard. I would very much like to have someone to talk to about everything, and none of my friends nor my boyfriend understand. I mean It's has been 2 1/2 years and i have not dealt with it well I cry all the time just thinking about it. I became very depressed and would not leave the house. I always thought someone would know just by looking at me. Until about a week ago my mom suggested I try and go online to find some young people like myself. I see a psych doc once a week and it has been helping a little. But I still feel like an outcast. Only 3 friends know and my boyfriend, whom has been so understanding and caring. My last boyfriend broke up with me when i told him about my "BAG". I just really need some support from people who truly understand. So please help if you can.

More Info: I was diagnosed with UC in 1996. I had my first surgery in November 2001. I have many good days as well as many bad days. I believe that a good recovery has a lot to do with how you think and feel about your situation. I would love to talk to anyone that knows what it is like to battle with UC or CD. I have many questions, like what foods do you find are the best/worst to eat? How do you get any energy? Or just to discuss and compare any situations that you may encounter when you have to live with this.

Email: penywisdom@optonline.net
Age: 19
Country: Long Island, New York, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: UC
More Info: My colon was 93% inflamed and my hemoglobin had dropped from 10 to 7 overnight, so they decided to remove it... after they removed it, they found dysplasic cells which would have led to colon cancer. I was in the hospital for a week after I had my ileostomy and then sent home. I had to go back the next day because I had a high fever, a twisted bowel, and a collapsed lung (from the central line they put in), and I was back in the hospital for another week... I will have my ileostomy reversal surgery most likely in May.

Email: Misslodge@hotmail.com
Age: 57
Country: England, UK
Surgery: Ileostomy Reversal
IBD: Bowel Cancer
More Info: I am looking for any information which may help my husband following the reversal of his ileostomy 10 months ago. He had bowel cancer and had chemotherapy after his reversal, however, he suffers from a lot of pain every time he needs to go to the toilet (which is very often) but as soon as he begins to meve his bowel the pain goes, this can be repeated anything up to 8 or 9 times before he finally gets relief. He is due to have a scan but the Oncologist is sure it is not cancer again. If anybody else is having this problem I would appreciate hearing about it.

More Info: HiHi! Okay, it's february 2003, and I'm not sure how old this site is, but its worth a try. I got "bub bubbles" (kind of like bugs bunny) in January 2002, so he is a year old now. it has really given me my life back, cuz I was diagnosed at age 9, and given bubs at age 14... those 5 years were hell on earth.. I was on countless mgs of steriods, anti-inflammatorys, everything. at times I seem to feel I was robbed of the years of transition between kid to teenager... some of the best years of most pplz lives. but now I'm getting to re-live them, and with a whole new perspective on life. I dance like no one's watching, I love like I'll never get hurt, and I live life as if there is no death. I don't think I'd be able to have a life without good ol' bub. Anyone else who is around my age, feel free, completely free to contact me, I haven't really met many kids in Alaska with crohns or an ostomy, except for Ryan and Whitney. I have to get going. Byez!!!

It is now the middle of January 2003 and have adapted to, as yet, my unnamed new appendage extremely well - apart from painful skin problems around the stoma which I am told is UC manifesting itself as it is still active in my rectum (left insitu for possible formation of ileo-anal pouch).
