More Info: Need some insight on some symptoms that I'm having. Had surgery for UC & Crohn's in 1996, 6 months later emergency surgery for adhesions, which caused a foot of the small intestine to be removed, from strangulation. Was problem free until lately here. Have been having raised bumps along the rectal scar line that eventually pop and go away. Just wondering if anyone else has had anything like this happen. Waiting to see the doc. Just thought I'd ask.

Email: jr@centurytel.net
Age: 68
Country: Heppner, Oregon, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: Peritoneal Carconoma/overian cancer
More Info: January 7, 2004, I had bowel obstruction. Underwent surgery where it was discovered I also had primary Peritoneal Carconoma/overian cancer. An ileostomy was performed. Have had 3 Chemo treatments for cancer and was to have surgery April l9th for reconnection of bowel. White blood count down so surgery is delayed. Still have 3 more Chemo treatments left. My only problem is trying to get my ostomy to heal. Have gone through skin barriers, skin prep, stoma paste, stoma powder, malox, gone from flat wafer to convex wafer. Now using spray adhesive which works good. Only problem is the waste material from the small intestine absorbes into the wafer and eats through the adhesive leaving me "Burning and raw". Cannot keep wafer on over two days. Have had yeast infection three times. Need help on getting my ostomy to heal. Any help will most certainly be appreciated.

Am going to do all the things I said I was going to but never got round to. I wanted to go to Australia (been 5 times), started my own business (cleaning and maintenance), buying my own house. Life does get better if you want it to, but it was due to the support from family and friends. Going back to Oz for 3 mounths to see more of the country. If any Oz's would like to email me on places to see I would be very greatful.

IBD: Wrong plumbing at birth
More Info:Well, My name is Nici, I'm 25, Reading all the stories on here, I realise how lucky I am. I was born with all kinds of things wrong with my plumbing, and as a result had a ileostomy fitted onto my right side almost immediately.
Then when I was 12,I developed Kidney Problems and as a result had my Kidney removed, due to my bad plumbing, it was decided that I would benefit from a Urostomy. I had my Urostomy fitted on to my left side after a few comfortable hours in theatre, unfortunately once everything was in place, my Ileostomy refused to work, and 7 hours later both my Ileostomy and Urostomy had swapped sides and were getting on famously.
Thankfully everything has gone ok since (touch wood) Please get in touch if you fancy a chat, swap stories, or just have a laugh.
Keep Smiling
Nici

Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: Cancer
More Info:I was dx with colorectal cancer in 2000. Everything went fine chemo and radiation was a piece of cake. I meet my stoma November 2000. He was only to stay for 6 month but we got along so great so he stayed 2 and a half years.
I WISH IT WAS THAT SIMPLE! I had some other stuff going on after my surgery that never healed right. Like I had to have stents in my kidneys. I had a fistula in my right butt cheek and had to do 6 more months of chemo. Well anyway after all this time and like 6 big surgeries, finally the day has come to close the stoma. That was in May of this year. After I woke up I missed the stoma a little. I didnt miss it in the shower or when I got dressed. But I sure missed it at night when I couldn't sleep because I had to go to the bathroom every 15 min. My bm are the size of my small finger.
Well anyway overtired, I couldnt go places unless I had my diaperbag with me (HATE THAT!) Sometime in August I developed another fistula and hole in the colon. NOW I HAVE MY STOMA BACK FOR GOOD! This stoma is not as nice as my first one. My first one was long and skinny so it was easy to put on the bag over it but this one is almost flush to my tummy and fat so its kind of hard for me but hey it's new - its only been 2 weeks today - BUT I FEEL GREAT. If I can be help to anybody or you guys to me that would mean so much to me.

Email: tkinstle@bright.net
Age: 48
Country: Wapakoneta, Ohio, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: Spina Bifada
More Info:I was born with Spina Bifada. By age 35 I had to have an urostomy done. Then in 1999, I had a colostomy done because my bowels were not functioning without use of strong laxatives. Then in 2002, my colostomy was not working even with irrigations so I had an ileostomy done. Then I found out a few months later that my ileal conduit had collapsed in my urostomy and now I'm making trips to Cleveland Clinc to have stints put in to avoid surgery. I wonder if anyone else has had a conduit collapse from adominable surgery. I also have pain in my rectum from the rectal stump that was left after the ileostomy surgery. I would like to hear from any ostomates with any of these problems.

Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: UC
More Info: A special thank you to Shaz and all of you who have shared your details within these pages. Reading about your experiences helped me decide that when surgery became inevitable, I wanted a total colectomy and a nice neat ileostomy, without wandering into the realms of pouch surgery. I was an undiagnosed Celiac for 47 years (thank gawd for the internet or I might never have worked it out!!!) I thought everyone had pain when they ate, a gluten free diet changed that, but by then the damage had already been to my digestive system and I had had IBD for years. Finally, yet another colonoscopy showed that I had developed Ulcerative Colitis, then came 12 months of steroids... gosh don't they do dreadful things to your body. And if anyone has the answer to wether this 'fur pelt' I acquired will drop out by itself or wether I need to start heating the wax... I would love to hear from you!!! July 2nd 2003 I had my total colectomy, unfortunately my spleen was damaged during th e op and had to be removed and then to add insult to injury I got pleurisy, which added a whole new meaning to the word pain for the following month!!! Being a Harry Potter fan I had thought I would call my stoma "Hagrid"... but then I thought it might be tempting fate and it would end up big and hairy. "Hermione" was a fleeting thought and then my favourite little red head came to mind and I have called it "Run Weasley".
