It was worth it for having my two beautiful children. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I also had one child before the ostomy surgery. Name:
Letty
Email: chetachyre@yahoo.com.au
Age: 53
Yahoo: chetachyre@yahoo.com.au
Country:
Sydney, Australia
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: Cancer
More Info:  Dear Family of Mankind, Where do I begin? I have just been through 2 operations, the first operation was 5 hours. I was diagnosed with Cancer of the bowel, Cancer that spread to my ovaries the surgeon performed a hesterectomy and cut part of my bowel which had the Cancer away and now I have got a temporary ileostomy bag. I developed a fistula between the vagina and rectum which just freaked me out to no end which is why the surgeon put the ileostomy bag on. The Doctor said it was caused from a surgical error. I have had the ileostomy bag now for 5 months and the fistula is not closed. I am so depressed about all this. I pray the fistula closes and the surgeon takes off the ilestomy bag very soon. The second operation to put the ileostomy bag on took 2 hours. That operation was performed 8 days after the first operation where they did the hysterectomy. I will pray for all of you all over the world for your healing and my healing. Kindest love... Letty.

4 May 2007
Name:
Elizabeth
Email: elizabethjablonski@yahoo.com
Age: 41
Country: Guy, Texas, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: Colon shut down
More Info:  I had a permanent ileostomy placed in July of 2006. The surgery was due to chronic abdominal pain and the inability to evacuate. My colon just would not work. I was on Hospice for three months, weighed under 90 #'s (I'm 5'4"), taking various narcotic pain killers and literally dying a little more each day. The ileostomy saved my life in the respect that I am able to eat and pass my food now and have gained my weight back but I am still in terrible chronic pain. I have had 7 previous surgeries due to female problems, one of which was due to stage IV endometriosis. My gastro Dr. now says the horrendous pain is caused by a neurological (nerve to muscle) disorder in my intestines. Two of the previous surgeons diagnosed me with pelvic adhesive disease and deemed this the cause of the terrible pain. One surgeon said it is caused by a mesh I have in my abdomen from a previos hernia and another surgeon says he has no clue as to why I am in so much pain. I have to take several narcotic pain meds including morphine around the clock which only eases this horrific abdominal pain. I would love to hear from anyone that may have some insight into my condition. Whether right or wrong I would love at least some suggestions. Thank you and God Bless.

Name:
Cathy
Email: boba@gallatinriver.net
Age: 49
Country: Pekin, Illinois, USA
Surgery: Ileostomy
IBD: Colon Cancer
More Info:  I had my ileostomy reversal surgery Dec 21,2007. Surgery went well. No one told me what to expect after the reversal. I have extreme soreness that makes me sob and take pain meds. I've found these things to be extremely helpful. Convatec protective ointment, Convatec Barrier spray, Lomotil, this has been a godsend. I also take anxiety meds when things get really bad. Sitz baths help some. They tell me my soreness and frequency are due to the radiation that I received for 5 1/2 weeks. I went thru chemo & radiation very easily, but this reversal has taken a toll on me. It's been 15 weeks, but I'm told it takes way over 6 months or longer to heal up. Has anyone else felt suicidal due to your discomfort? I seriously wondered if I had made a mistake the days the pain was so bad. I know that I'm not alone out there.
