More Info: I was just diagnosed with rectal cancer 2 weeks ago. My surgery for a temporary colostomy will be next week. They are not sure if they will be able to do a j-pouch after the chemo/rad and tumor removal. I am trying to come to terms with a permanent colostomy and would really like to talk to anyone about the ostomy and rectal cancer. This is all so new and very scary. Thanks!

More Info: My 2 Year old son, Presley, has Ulcerative colitis. It is still very early days and he is in hospital and has only just started trialing anti-inflammatories which I am hoping will work and that then I will be able to bring him home. This disease is so all-consuming. Presley only has a mild case at this stage apparently, but his symptoms certainly seem severe enough for me. He is only a baby, it is so hard watching him suffer, I just don't understand why this disease has occurred in the first place, I guess everyone must have felt what I am feeling right now.

IBD:Hirschsprungs
More Info: my son, Jacari, was diagonoised with HD (hirschsprungs disease) at 1 yr. However that was after numerous of complaints and arguments with many doctors over the severity of my son's constipation. I then requested a second opinion. My son was diagnosed with Hirschsprungs Disease. Me and my son went through 1 1/2 years of enema's and stool softners and many rectal biopsies. This was truly a difficult time. However when my son turned 3 years old he had a pull-through surgery without having to wear a ostomy (bag). Jacari is now 5 years old has reached average weight for children his age and is enrolled in his first year of school. Although I'm still working on him with training his bowel it is still such a blessing as we look back on life. I encourage any parent to elect for the pull-through I promise that would cut out on all the hospital visits, enema's, and dehydration. The next step will be potty-training and then moving on with life.
