Doreen's Story

Hi, my name is Doreen and I live in West Virginia. I am going to start from the beginning and tell my story.

I was 34 almost 35 when I found out I had cancer. I started bleeding on May 20th of 1993 and I didn't stop until Sept of 1993. I went to my doctor in July and he said he had good news and bad news. The bad news was that I had uterine cancer and the good news was I could have a hysterectomy and that would take care of it.

I told my husband and everybody who would listen to me. I found out just before my surgery that I had sugar too. Then in Sept they did the surgery it took me 9 months to heal from this. The doctor got it all or so he thought he did. I had my pap smear done every 3 months and then in Oct. of 1995 it showed that that the cancer was back. So in the following month I had to have radiation treatments I had them for 5 week. At one point they inserted cones in my vagina and did treatments this away for 3 days.

Then I went into the hospital after Christmas that year the next day and had to lay on my back for 4 days while they did what was called rod insertion. I couldn't turn over but I could move from side to side. This meant I had to eat laying down I told the nurses this was the torture room and I hope to never go back to it again.

I got through this and then in 1999 the cancer returned for a third time. We found out about it in May and in June they did surgery on me again, It took 15 hours and I had two doctors working on me - one removed 50lb of my tummy so they could do the other surgery.

When this was done I come out with a colostomy and a urine bag on my tummy. I am living with two bags on my tummy. It has been a long road to haul but I am making it. I finally healed from the last surgery 19 months later. Now I have a tube coming from my left kidney where it is blocked. I have it changed every 4 weeks. I also go back to my ob-gyn next month and we are doing a pap smear again. We don't know for sure yet but the cancer may be back.

If you are interested in talking to me I would appreciate it very much. Especially if you have gone through any of this. Hope to hear from anybody thank for listening and reading this. I am at sexibabydoll44@aol.com if you want to e-mail me ;-)
