I am 26 years old. I had an emergency ileostomy preformed this past February (2004). I have never had any problems with eating, bowel functions, anything!
I gave birth to my daughter, Gracelyn, in January and after her birth I started experiencing constipation and if I ate after 5:00, extreme abdominal pain (worst than labor pains). When I felt like I did need to have a bowel movement it was only water (clear) and sometimes bloody tissue. It was as if I had my period from my bottom.
I kept calling my doctor and they kept telling me that I had just had a baby and this was normal. No it is not I would tell them. My pain became so intense that I could not literally move from place to place. I acquired massive, clotted hemmorrhoids which again my doctor told me to use a cream or Tuck's pads. I would cry when I called her.
Oddly too, mainly, I would not have to go the bathroom any during the day but all night I would pass blood and trinkles of water, never poop. My doctor continued to prescribe laxatives to me, Loratabs, a cream that was suppose to numb my bottom. I couldn't even tell I had used that. I felt like I was dying. I would cry out to God, please Lord, what is wrong with me?
I had a 19 month old boy and a 3 week old girl and I could not take care of them. My little boy flooded our bathroom because I couldn't move around. Finally, I called my doctor one morning. And the nurse I had spoke to several times said to me "Honey, does your bottom still hurt?" I started yelling at her, all the time crying, "the doctor is going to see me right now or I am going to the hospital". This had been going on for about 3 weeks.
Well, my doctor made an appointment for me with a surgeon that day. She told him I was only suffering from hemmorroids. Needless to say, I will not be returning to her. I went in to the surgeon, He wanted to look at my bottom. I screamed bloody murder in his office. I wouldn't touch my bottom, much less another person touch it!
He booked me for surgery the next day. I couldn't wait. I went in for a hemmoroidectomy and the surgeon said there was so much pus and infection that he couldn't really see. He did, I don't know a colonostomy or endoscopy, something, and found that my entire large intestine was about to rupture from infection.
He told me that he needed to take my colon out, okay, but I was so drugged up. My mom said he called her and when she got there he told her what he was going to do but he did not expect me to live through the surgery. Well, obviously, I made it. Thanks to the Lord above.
You should have seen my doctor when she found out what had happened to me. It would have made you sick, "I'm so sorry ya ya ay". Yeah, I bet she was sorry. I almost died because she would not listen to me.
I think this might have been brought on by years of bulimia. I am not sure. From 13 to 23 I had a eating disorder, but from 19 till now have eaten healthy food, did lots of detox, even had a colonoscopy at 19. Nothing. I was overjoyed to read about the women having children with
ostomies. My surgeon acted is if I couldn't. Thanks for the opportunity to share my story..
