Hi, my name is Mary and I'm 37 years old. Back when I was 18 I was diagnosed with FAP so I had a partial colectomy. I had colon scopes to check for reaccuring polpys which keep coming back so in 1992 I was told that my rectum was full of polpys and I would need my rest of my large bowel removed.
That was done and then I had an ileostomy done. In 6 weeks it was reversed and everything seemed to get back to normal. This lasted for another 5 years then I recieved more news in 1997 when I found out I had a benign tumor called a desmoid which they took out. It weighed 22 pounds - unbelievable, but true! I was told that I would have to go back and check for more every so often. The next time I had a 10 pound tumour removed and 4 smaller ones.
Then I started to have more line infections from the tpn and I had 2 blockages. When the last surgery to remove the blockage was done, the doctor wasn't able to do anything because radiation had frozen my abdominal area so in 2004 I went to Pitts and had the 1st part of surgery done and 2 weeks later the transplant was done which totally change my life.
...Mary
